Buckets Of Porridge
Farming through fifty years...and surviving!
NEW RELEASE!
Peter Jennings
"We had no relatives in farming, no interests in the countryside, no connection with animals or nature."
What led a teenager, born and raised in London after the Second World War, to choose a life of farming in the English countryside? And how could he achieve his ambition of managing over a thousand acres?
Although he didn't understand the advice given to him at his initial interview, he soon began to realise that buckets of porridge would be needed every step of the way, as well as several miraculous answers to prayer.

Reviews
"Peter's career has been a triumph of determination and sel-confidence, which blends very significantly with religious belief."
- Peter Ward, Ex NFU County Chairman, Member Worshipful Co. Farmers
"A good read for anyone interested in the history of English farming from the fifies to the noughties"
- Richard Gould BSc
Snr. Agricultural Advisor, ADAS
"Peter Jennings sends us back in time to the middle of the last century, when farming was a constant battle between man and nature; when times were tough and work was demanding, but rewarding. Whether you are a retired farmer yourself, reminiscing about the good old days, or a couch potato dreaming of a more natural way of life, you will find something to enjoy in this book."
- Michelle Ward
The Author
Peter Jennings was born 1940 in the East End of London, starting his first job on an Essex farm aged seventeen. Agricultural College and ten employers later, he has experienced farming over much of England from boy to foreman, and from farm and estate manager to tenant.
His regular column in the national farming press ranged from the serious to the faintly ridiculous, then back to the humorous position of the primary producer.
Peter's story covers all the ups and downs of farming and family life. He writes from the inside, having been 'in the thick of it', revealing what happens when the Countryfile cameras stop rolling.
From horses to sat-navs, from a wheelbarrow to over a thousand acres, ultimately, Peter is a farmer and nature-lover guided by the Almighty.
